Why use this channel

Most council use social media to promote their raises. This makes sense - it is an efficient way to reach an engaged audience and also presents the opportunity to share rich content, images and other engaging assets.

Councils use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to reach various segments of their audience.

You may be looking to use paid social media advertising to boost your reach. You can do this on Twitter and LinkedIn without issue, but Meta has a restriction that will prevent you from boosting posts. It only allowed directly FCA approved firms to post financial ads.

This is not a correct process, we are working with Meta to try and remove it. If you have a strong desire to use paid Meta ads, you can potentially do so via the Abundance Meta account - we have an agency in place who manage this for us, who may be able to support you. Contact us if you want to discuss doing this.

Messaging guidance

Social media can communicate a wide range of messaging across your communications plan, and should be considered a core method of delivering your key messaging across the raise period and beyond.

Risk warnings and disclaimers

For social media, we need to consider risk warnings on assets (such as images) and the copy. The FCA considers these to be separate from a sign-off point of view, and so both the images and the copy must comply with the sign-off rules.

Here’s how that works in reality:

The short risk warning is sufficient for both social media copy and image assets. You need to include the risk warning on every social media post you make about the investment - once per thread in the case of a threaded post.

Investments are long term and may be hard to sell. Approver: Abundance (525432). Approval date: [01/07/2025]
